Description: Job Summary: The assistant residence hall dean has two primary responsibilities: interpersonal relationships with on-campus residents and facilities management. The dean provides direction, counseling, and support to residence-hall students in matters personal, spiritual, and academic. The dean also helps maintain an orderly and spiritual environment in the residence hall.
Experience: Is available to residents for help, listening, counseling, and supervision.
Runs the residence in a warm orderly manner.
Oversees one or more of the following areas: maintenance of facilities, housekeeping/maintenance staff, front desk staff and schedules, chapel planning, curfew and night check processes, resident assistants and student deans, weight room.
Assists with both male and female residential student.
Approves late leaves and overnight leaves.
Closes up and completes census at curfew time.
Assists with student code of conduct issues.
Assists with residence hall club and helps organize club and residence-hall events.
Assists in crisis intervention and management.
Performs other reasonably business-related functions as assigned.
Participates in university-assigned committees.
Special Requirements: Must have an expressed commitment to Jesus Christ and the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, be an SDA church member in good and regular standing, and possess a desire to serve in a cooperative, spiritually redemptive, and soul-winning atmosphere.
Qualifications: BS/BA degree required, MS/MA preferred. Practice confidentiality of information at all times. Good people and administrative skills. Previous experience as a residence hall dean. Have the desire to grow professionally, including a willingness to learn new systems and procedures. Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently. Knowledge of Spanish or another language helpful but not required.
