Description: Leads the Center for Humanitarian Engagement, galvanizing the Walla Walla University family for service that inspires, equips, and transforms. Leads the university’s signature service project, with the goal of creating a significant, sustained, positive impact in the community. Directs strategic planning for the signature service project, which brings a diverse network of internal and external partners together to address community needs. Fosters collaboration and capacity building among internal partners. Guides Center staff in creating a wide range of service learning opportunities while choreographing a strong partnership between curricular and co-curricular education. Assesses the impact of service and service learning initiatives on student and on the communities they engage and sets goals for the future.

Experience: • Education: Master’s degree in service learning, community health, social work, nonprofit administration or closely related field is required. A terminal degree is strongly preferred.
• Years of experience: Minimum: A positive track record of transformational leadership and volunteerism, 3 years of full-time (or equivalent) experience leading a community engagement program in a community-based organization. Experience in developing and maintaining partnerships with a diverse set of community organizations, school, religious and civic organizations. Significant experience in service learning is preferred.
• Leadership: Hires, trains, and mentors Center staff
• Strategic planning: Leverages the wealth of university and community resources to address community priorities, within the context of the signature service project and the university’s mission
• Partnership: Builds and maintains an inclusive network of partners, such as community organizations, schools, religious and civic organizations
• Collaboration: Effectively navigates academic and community-based environments, both of which are characterized by collaborative decision-making
• Assessment: Assesses the impact of service and service learning on the communities served and on the students who serve
• Communication: Inspires internal stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, and administrators to collaborate in community engagement
