Description: Location: Deli
Hours: Full-time, hourly
Job Summary: The assistant manager of the Deli will have the primary responsibility of working with the manager in overseeing the total operation of the Deli. This individual must be capable of performing all aspects of the Deli operation and fill-in for the manager during their absence.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Check and maintain high standards of food preparation and service
Instruct and maintain high standards of sanitation and safety in all areas - making sure each department is following health regulations
Work with the manager in interviewing, hiring and schedule student employees
Monitor the attendance of student employees ensuring they follow all rules & regulations
Assist in the motivating, counseling, and disciplining of student employees when necessary
Collaborate with the manager in hiring of staff and resolving personnel issues
Help with the purchases and inventories of food supplies and other necessary commodities that assures quality food service at a minimum cost
Be innovative with ideas to implement special food sales and promotions
Search for new menu items and sample with students at times
Work on establishing standardized recipes, calculating recipes and portion cost
Check and maintain food cost/prices and track food waste
Provide VM office with updated item prices and Weekly menus
Make sure the daily deposits are done and taken to the Cashiers Office in Wright Hall
Make sure all invoices are turned in to the Food Service Office Manager’s office for payment
Keep all equipment in working order
Perform all other reasonably business-related functions as assigned
Experience: Education and Experience: College or trade school education preferred. A minimum of 5 years experience in Food Service. Supervision and management experience necessary.
Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively. Must be a self starter who displays neatness, cleanliness, and organizational skills and has the ability to motivate others to do the same. Personality should be approachable, friendly, positive attitude, able to encourage others.
Skills and Aptitudes: Have a working knowledge of food service operations, computer skills. Interpersonal relationship skills essential with ability to work with employees with a team spirit, The ability to interact appropriately with other campus personnel. Have safety-consciousness and promote within work force.
Typical Physical Demands: Requires sitting, standing, bending, and reaching. May require lifting up to 50 pounds. (If over 40 pounds please ask for help) Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, and telephone. Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
Working Conditions: Essential task are performed under normal office/school conditions with little or no noticeable discomfort. Work area is well lighted and ventilated.
