Description: The University: La Sierra University is a comprehensive Seventh-day Adventist institution of higher education in Riverside, California. It's main and two ancillary campuses annually enroll approximately 2,500 students from over 70 nations in its undergraduate and graduate programs. The H.M.S. Richards Divinity School operates on the baccalaureate and graduate levels, participating in the University's general education curriculum, and providing per-seminary ministerial preparation, the Bachelor of Arts degree program in religious studies, and Master of Theological Studies, Master of Divinity and Master of Arts degree programs. La Sierra University is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the Adventist Accrediting Association and pertinent professional bodies including the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada.
The position: The Divinity School announces a full-time tenure-track position in its Department of Theological Studies, with teaching responsibilities primarily in the areas of ethics (including moral philosophy) and 'religion and society', at the undergraduate and graduate levels, effective for Fall 2018. Additional areas of expertise in ancillary areas such as church history, philosophy and systematic theology would be desirable. Instruction might also include core courses in the General Education curriculum, with the possibility of other agreed offerings in adjacent disciplines such as practical theology, history, anthropology, political philosophy and the sociology and philosophy of religion, etc. Participation in team-taught courses and other collaborative efforts are expected, in advancing the School's explicit plans for strengthening its global and multi-cultural perspectives. Remuneration scales are commensurate with those of comparable educational institutions in the region.
Experience: Qualifications: Qualified applicants will have a documented record of successful teaching at the tertiary level, and will hold or be completing an earned PhD degree in ethics, 'religion & society' or related specialized areas from an accredited university. Demonstrated ability to conduct original scholarly research and publication, appropriate to the candidate's present career stage, is expected. Membership in the Seventh-day Adventist Church is required for all religion faculty at La Sierra University, with demonstrated contribution to the Church's pastoral and/or evangelistic missions. International background, experience and/or research is preferred.
