Description: We are looking for an experienced and energetic HR professional to join the WAU team. Reporting to the Executive VP for Finance, the Associate VP of Human Resources is responsible for managing the HR functions of the University to include employment, benefits, compensation, employee relations, training, and payroll. The incumbent is also responsible for strategic planning to identify programs, policies and trends that will support the University’s overall goals. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in federal and state laws, as well as in denominational HR practices and policies and will have a passion for working in a small and vibrant office, providing hands-on administration of the HR function.
Administers, implements, develops, and evaluates the University's human resource function and performance.
Participates in the development of the University's plans and programs as a strategic partner, particularly from the perspective of the impact on people.
Coordinates all aspects of HR to include faculty, staff and student hiring processes, employee relocation, orientation, administering mandatory training courses, compensation, performance management, employee relations, HR information system, benefits administration (to include retirement processing), and payroll.
May serve on search committees as requested and provides advice to search committees on hiring practices.
Reviews payroll and benefits reports and the HR information system to ensure compliance and accuracy.
Prepares various denominational reports (i.e. credentials, service records).
Participates in internal and external audits, ensuring that all requested information is provided and adjusting policies and practices as a result of audit findings.
Stays current on federal, state and denominational employment requirements and regulations.
Makes recommendations on HR policies.
Provides technical advice and knowledge to HR team.
Manages the HR budget.
Experience: Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
5-7 years of experience in human resources, preferably in higher education or denominational HR, at least 3 years of which was at the managerial level
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities effectively
Demonstrated capacity for planning and organizing
Advanced skills in team building, motivation, and conflict resolution
