Description: Job Summary: Holds significant responsibility for the implementation of a comprehensive Annual Giving program that will grow Southern’s culture of generosity among alumni, employees, and friends of the university; maximize giving, and increase alumni participation. The role also includes managing student workers. Candidate for this position should have excellent time management skills, acquaintance with direct mail and digital communication, self-motivation, and ability to prioritize multiple projects.
This is a full-time, twenty-four month, exempt position reporting to the Assoc. Director for Advancement. As a part of the Philanthropic Services for Institutions Career Opportunity program, the Annual Giving Coordinator will also communicate with the Program Director at PSI, and provide appropriate reports as requested. At the end of the twenty-four months, the position will be evaluated for a full-time permanent position.
Fundraising duties and responsibilities:
Work with the annual giving committee whose members will be available as mentors.
Collaborate with department colleagues to implement strategic direct marketing, communication and solicitation materials that incorporate direct mail, digital, social media, phonathons, Giving Day, crowdfunding, and other communication methods.
Conceptualize themes, write letters and other promotional materials, and proofread/edit written pieces. Collaborate with the Marketing department on design elements.
Learn to identify target constituent segments for solicitation, request necessary data, and analyze results.
Coordinate fundraising efforts for employee giving and graduation campaigns, with the Advancement team.
Experience: Management duties and responsibilities:
Manage Southern’s Call Center program using the framework of an existing successful program. Includes assisting the student/graduate student call center coordinator in recruiting, hiring, and managing students, writing scripts and support materials, and identifying target constituent segments.
Communicate directly with direct mail vendors and consultants. Work with the Assoc. Director of Advancement on budgets and planning.
Collaborate with major gift officers for movement of annual giving donors to major giving program and recommend potential corporations for matching gift challenges for the annual program.
Oversee stewardship pieces directed to annual giving donors.
Serve on the university’s Fundraising Committee and Student Missions Executive Committee as requested.
Bachelor’s degree in communication, PR, business, or non-profit management preferred.
Experience in fundraising and/or nonprofit organizations preferred
Excellent writing and interpersonal skills
Advanced computer skills, web, and e-communications skills
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to work evenings and travel, when needed.
Special Requirements: Must have an expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, a SDA church member in good and regular standing, and a desire to serve in a cooperative, spiritually redemptive, and soul-winning atmosphere.
Typical Physical Demands: Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching. Must have enthusiasm for fundraising to benefit the students and programs of Southern. May require lifting up to 50 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, the telephone and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
Working Conditions: Working hour schedule is non-traditional. Essential tasks are performed under normal office/school conditions with little or no noticeable discomfort. Work area is well lighted and ventilated.
