Description: The Vice President for Student Life (VPSL) provides vision, leadership, and oversight of all student life activities. The VPSL is a member of the President’s Cabinet, and works collaboratively with other executives to create a campus culture that promotes student success, provides a safe and welcoming campus environment, and fosters a sense of spirituality and community among the students. • Serves as a passionate advocate for the PUC mission and its faithful expression through the student life programs of the institution. • Provides leadership for ensuring that the College provides a comprehensive array of student services and student development programs that are focused on student success. • Plans, designs, develops, and delivers student programs and services that meet the goals of the College; provides leadership for evaluating and ensuring quality in all aspects of the College’s student services activities. • Recommends, develops, and implements student services policies, procedures and practices which foster and promote all student learning and student success, and which support the educational programs of the College. • Provides leadership and oversees the application of the Americans with Disabilities Act to ensure all students have equal access to services. • Accountable for achievement of College goals and objectives within the scope of Student Life, as set forth in the College’s Strategic Plan. • Collaborates with Human Resources in the hiring of qualified student life staff members. • Provides leadership and collaborates with administration and the Enrollment team for the recruitment and retention of students. • Fosters an environment of teamwork, collegiality, and integrity. • Prepares and administers the overall budget for Student Life activities, in consultation with the Associate Vice-President for Financial Administration, and the President. • Manages Human Resources and Title IX issues in cooperation with the Human Resources Department and the Title IX Office. • Delegates responsibility and authority to subordinates, but maintains accountability. • Assumes leadership and responsibility for establishing an environment which promotes respect for students, faculty, and staff and recognizes initiative and excellence. • Prepares appropriate reports; analyzes and evaluates enrollment and retention data; projects student enrollment and retention data to be used in strategic decision making. • Develops, fosters and promotes new opportunities for partnerships with public and private sector entities; provides leadership in the development of operational and strategic goals drive the mission of the College. • Supports College activities and special events through attendance and/or participation; • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES • The position has broad management responsibility and oversight of student life departments, including supervision of faculty, staff, and students.
Experience: • Education: Master’s Degree Required, Doctorate Degree Preferred • 5-7 years of demonstrated leadership in a variety of student services areas, such as student life, residence life, counseling/advising, athletics, and support services including personnel planning, budgeting, and community partnerships. • An advocate for the role and value of Seventh-day Adventist higher education. • Must have an expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and a SDA church member in good and regular standing.
