Description: Potomac Conference is looking for a Special Educator to serve all K-8 schools in the conference territory. The candidate will serve and work with students, teachers, parents, and administrators. Additionally, the special educator will be responsible to support conference educators with professional development in areas such as, warning signs for learning challenges and curriculum strategies, mental health warning signs, behavioral concerns and strategies and attention concerns and strategies. The individual will need to develop a conference wide system for managing accommodation plans and implement procedures to be used by all educators when creating and following accommodation plans. The special educator will give formal and informal educational assessments to help determine students’ learning differences or disabilities, support inclusion strategies, and work with public school counties for students who need further formal educational testing. They will also be responsible for communicating and educating all new hires on procedures and processes in Potomac Conference related to Special Education. The candidate will need to understand special education law as it applies to private schools in the various counties/states where students are located.

Experience: It is preferred that the candidate have a master’s in special education, but candidates working toward one may be considered. Additionally, it is helpful if the candidate has experience working with students in a special education capacity and developing accommodation plans. The candidate should have training and experience in giving the Woodcock Johnson Tests of Achievement, the Slingerland, the Gesell Screening and Assessment, and the Comprehensive Test of Phonological Processing, as well as sharing the data with educators and parents. The candidate will need to have strong organizational, communication and collaboration skills. The candidate will be expected to provide oversight of schools’ accommodation plans and work with school personnel to develop plans for students with academic, behavioral, attention or mental health concerns.
