Description: The Associate Academic Dean assists with the administration of the academic program at Pacific Union College. In cooperation with the Academic Dean, (s)he seeks ways to improve the quality of instruction and enhance the academic life of the campus. In the absence of the Academic Dean, the Associate Academic Dean acts as the Dean and on the Dean's behalf. The Associate Academic Dean directs and coordinates the following activities (either personally or through the supervision of subordinates): ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Administration • Assists the Academic Dean in the supervision of the Administrative Assistant personnel. • Serves as a liaison with faculty and the Academic Dean's office. • Assists the Academic Dean with faculty personnel issues. • Assists in the academic portion of new student orientation. • Assists with new faculty orientation. • Represents the academic administration on a variety of committees, including: o Academic Affairs Committee of the Board (Secretary) o Academic Senate o Assessment Committee (Chair) o Chamber of Chairs o College Assembly o Curriculum & Efficiency Committee (Secretary) o Directors of College Services o Faculty Handbook Committee o Institutional Review Board (Chair) o Pre-Professional Recommendations Committee (Chair) • Coordinates the faculty development seminars. • Coordinates the creation of the annual Academic Start Guide. • Arranges course evaluations. • Arranges advisor evaluations. • Coordinates advisor orientation and support. • Coordinates the pre-professional advising program. • Facilitates and tracks the efforts of faculty doing graduate work. • Serves as editor of the College Catalog. • Processes study tour requests. • Coordinates the College Early and Dual Credit enrichment programs. • Works with the Dean to identify and develop tools for academic assessment. • Serves as the Core Competency Assessment Coordinator. • Serves as the Institutional Learning Outcome Assessment Coordinator. • Assists the Academic Dean with accreditation activities. • Assists the Academic Dean in any manner requested, which may include developing reports, representing the Dean in meetings, or other duties as assigned.

Experience: • Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) or equivalent; or Master’s degree plus four to ten years related experience and/or training. • Participates in the supervision of the Administrative Assistant personnel in Academic Administration. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
