Hong Kong Adventist Academy (HKAA) offers an American curriculum to students from G1-12. Students and teachers from 35 countries come each work day to our breathtaking campus at Clear Water Bay. We seek to hire a full-time Science Teacher who can also head the Science department for the new school year beginning August 2025. Major responsibilities of the job include teaching Chemistry, Physical/Integrated Science and Advanced Placement-related Science classes; providing a safe and optimal learning environment be it in classroom or in the laboratory; collaborating with other members of the Science team to plan integrated units and advisory activities; discuss students’ academic progress, plan and moderate assessments; and work together to promote the educational needs of the students. 

As the Science subject coordinator, the teacher needs to be familiar with Hong Kong Education Bureau’s Science subject requirements as well as the Adventist Education’s Science subject recommendations and requirements. He/she needs to ensure that HKAA achieves goals that have been set for the Science department. Additionally, the candidate needs to actively support school-wide focus areas (e.g. HKAA values) and ensure that these are embedded in Science subject practices; lead the process in reviewing and rewriting courses in the Science subject area to ensure they are innovative, engaging and up-to-date; ensure all subject teachers are teaching approved courses at an appropriate standard; coordinate with the Registrar to review, verify and recommend digital and physical textbooks and library books; conduct Science subject planning meetings and review meetings as necessary; and recommend and implement changes thereafter for the following school year. Also, he/she needs to supervise usage and scheduling of Science laboratories, manage inventory of lab-related materials/resources and work with Vice Principal of Finance in purchasing materials/resources within budget.

Candidate must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or higher in science with a teaching certificate and ideally with first-aid qualification. He/she must have a minimum 5 years of teaching experience in the high school; possess excellent classroom management skills; is passionate for education and science; possess a solid understanding of secondary school program organization, programs and students; and possess a proven ability to differentiate instruction and integrate learning; and a positive.
