Hong Kong Adventist Academy (HKAA) offers an American curriculum to students from G1-12. Students and teachers from 35 countries come each work day to our breathtaking campus at Clear Water Bay. We seek to hire two full-time Elementary Homeroom Teachers for the new school year beginning August 2025. Major goal of the job is to prepare elementary students for success in the secondary school and beyond. With outstanding curriculum knowledge, he/she will plan integrated units and advisory activities, discuss students' academic progress, plan and moderate assessments, and work collaboratively to promote the explicit educational needs of the fifth graders. He/she nurtures students in excellence, service and integrity, besides addressing the welfare, discipline and educational needs of each student as a homeroom teacher. He/she also maintains a productive classroom while nurturing an encouraging, supportive relationship with students. Other major responsibilities include creating a learning environment that is motivating, inspiring and age-appropriate, setting clear expectations for class work and homework while maintaining instructional resources that support the classroom learning; building trust and rapport with students, and collegially collaborate in providing pastoral care; understanding students’ diverse needs and seek to actively know students’ strengths and weaknesses to cater to their differing learning needs; and establishing regular links with the parent community to ensure that parents are kept well informed about student progress.
Candidate must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree with PGCE/PGDE or Bachelor's degree in Education. An advanced degree is desirable. He/she must have a minimum 3 years of elementary teaching experience within a recognized educational institution. The candidate is expected to have demonstrable evidence of creating/innovating/adapting elementary school curricula to engage students. Also, he/she needs to have experience in designing and implementing effective and creative inquiry-based units of study. Other expectations include excellent classroom management skills (including students with special needs); excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and experience in using technology in classroom e.g. applications like Google Suite (Drive, Classroom), Nearpod.
