Qualifications summary

Tenure-track faculty .75 position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of English with teaching (3/3), service, and scholarship responsibilities beginning July 2025. Entails teaching composition and literature courses each term. The genres and periods of specialization are open, but we are especially interested in candidates who can teach American literature, creative writing, YA Literature, and/or English Education classes, and whose profile allows the candidate to collaborate with other departments on campus. Duties and responsibilities

We seek a generalist to teach across our literature and writing curriculum. Genres and periods of specialization are open, but we are especially interested in candidates who teach American literature, YA literature, creative writing, and/or English Education classes. We seek a teacher-scholar invested in diversity and inclusion and committed to university service who demonstrates a burgeoning research agenda. The position is a .75 position and carries a load of 9 credit hours per semester distributed across general education classes and courses for the major. 

Technical competencies

The candidate should be familiar with Microsoft Office and willing to learn the university's learning management system. 

Interpersonal interactions

  • Will conduct classes and interact with students in a culturally diverse environment
  • Will promote and model civility and politeness in all interactions with students and colleagues
  • Will direct classroom discussions and other interactions, such as small groups, presentations, workshops, peer reviews, and other similar activities
  • Will meet one-on-one with students to review their work and offer evaluation, direction, and suggestions for revisions of written work
  • Will work with individual students in sometimes sensitive situations to accommodate disabilities and other challenges, all within FERPA regulations
  • Will foster collegial relationships with both within the department and across campus

Physical demands

Physical demands of this job are in keeping with being a faculty member in an educational institution.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, look at screens for significant amounts of time, and move about from office to office or classroom to classroom; type, write, carry; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.

Work environment

Professors' offices are located in an area that at times has significant student traffic. Professors should be able to manage regular noise levels.

Required Experience

A PhD in English Literature or a closely related field. MAs and ABDs may apply, but preference will be given to candidates who are close to completion or have already finished their doctoral training.

Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
