The Maintenance Technician I performs a variety of basic maintenance, building services, janitorial, and engineering duties for the Facility Services Department. The employee reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and may also be assigned, at times, to receive guidance and instruction from another Technician. The Maintenance Technician I performs a variety of unskilled janitorial work and unskilled work in various crafts such as carpentry, plumbing, welding, painting, electrical, sheet metal, masonry, and machinist work. The employee is guided by a general understanding of building trades, janitorial services, carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical repairs, plant maintenance methods, techniques, procedures, and operation and use of department equipment and supplies. The Maintenance Technician I will work individually or with others, as directed. The Maintenance Technician I performs duties in accordance with local, state and federal regulations.
Required Experience
Education and/or Experience: - High school diploma . - Must possess a valid driver's license Personal Characteristics: - Must be self-motivated and independent worker, as well as able to work as a member of a team. - Must possess an extremely high sense of urgency, personal energy, and stamina. - Must be capable of handling multiple priorities and extensive time demands. - Must possess a high level of personal integrity. - Must possess good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with co-workers and customers. Language Skills: - Command of English grammar and spelling. - Verbal and written communication in English. - Mathematical and Technology Skills: - Basic mathematical and analytical skills. - Ability to use work order system and email. Reasoning Ability: - Ability to comprehend and interpret instructions, short correspondence, and memos and ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding. - Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, and/or supervisor. - Ability to understand and carry out general instructions in standard situations. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Good physical condition including the ability to walk, sit, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb stairs, ladders (of up to 25 ft.) and/or equipment, and a good sense of balance to work on heights of up to 25 ft. is required. Some lifting of medium and heavy materials, equipment and tools of up to 50 lbs. is required. Employee must be able to work in hazardous surroundings. The employee will frequently be called upon and must be able to work long hours under stressful conditions, including weekends and nights. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
