Portland Adventist Elementary School (PAES) is seeking candidates for a Jr. High teaching position for the 2024-25 school year, with an emphasis in SCIENCE and ELA to complete our team of 3 teachers.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Collaborating with a junior high team and reading interventionist for planning and meeting the needs of students
- Developing and maintaining a safe, loving, clean, and structured classroom environment
- Planning and implementing engaging lessons and units of study (primarily in Science and ELA)
- Teaching at least one elective per semester (subjects vary)
- Communicating clearly and effectively with parents, children, and colleagues both in person and via emails and newsletters
- Developing rapport with students, families, and colleagues
- Meeting the needs of students who come from diverse backgrounds and vary in their ranges of ability
- Actively supervising students for lunch, recess, and other daily activities
- Tracking, monitoring, and communicating student growth and progress using standards-referenced proficiency scales (standards-based grading)
- Implementing restorative practices for behavior issues
- Modeling and sharing Jesus' love with children

- English language proficiency: Professional/Master
- SDA teaching credential (preferred, can be earned)
- Bachelor's Degree or higher (elementary ed preferred)
- Experience teaching 7/8th grade (preferred)
- Experience with Standard-based Learning (preferred)
