Description

The Dean of Student Life (DOSL) supports the college's mission, goals, and objectives. The DOSL is responsible for providing vision, leadership, and management of student organizations and the planning and implementing extracurricular and co-curricular activities and programs campus wide. They will develop and coordinate outreach projects and activities for student involvement in collaboration with Campus Ministries and Service Learning and provide support in student life, student conduct, Community programming, and supervision. The dean will oversee the student management of the Rita Hoshino Campus Center. 

  • Support students through their matriculation at PUC.
  • Create a culture of inclusivity for all students in collaboration with other college partners. 
  • Ability to display empathy, compassion, friendliness, and understanding when helping students resolve challenges. 
  • Provide leadership in student activities, new student orientation, student organization development; and serve as the general sponsor for the student association (SA). 
  • Support current and assist in developing new student clubs and organizations. 
  • Establish policies and procedures, promote the positive growth and development of students affiliated and interested in all student organizations, work with organization leadership and advisors in event planning, organizational development, and budget development.
  • Provide training for student club and organization leaders and advisors, as well as training and communication for club and organization advisors.
  • Collaborate with academic departments with student clubs to develop meaningful and quality programs.
  • Manage Pioneers Link (Presence) and ensure the adoption of all clubs and organizations. Train users and analyze and audit usage and strength of events.
  • Use data to inform decision-making about student clubs and organizations. 
  • Coordinates leadership development opportunities for student leaders.
  • Work collaboratively with Campus Ministries, Service Learning, and community leaders to design, plan, coordinate, and participate in campus-wide outreach efforts to include local community outreach and collaboration with local organizations.
  • Ensures the daily operations of the Rita Hoshino Campus Center 
  • Coordinate, recruit, train, supervise, develop, and evaluate student staff in the operation of the Campus Center.
  • Manage budget for the Campus Center and Student Involvement.
  • Holds regular and published office hours for students to drop in for resources and support.
  • Possess a thoughtful, faith-based approach to engaging emerging adults and non-traditional students.
  • Be able to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. 
  • Be able to navigate a variety of software programs and social media platforms. 
  • Meets a flexible work schedule that frequently includes evenings and weekends.
  • Assists with summer programs. 
  • Coordinate student life surveys and use data for service improvements. 
  • Manage other departments as assigned. 
  • Represent the Vice President in their absence. 
Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.  
  • Minimum of three (4) years professional experience in student personnel, higher education administration, or comparable experience. 
  • Committed to the ministry of Seventh-day Adventist higher education
  • Exceptional public presence (including, but not limited to speaking in public, trainings, and through social media platform. 
  • Capability to articulate and assess student life learning outcomes set in conjunction with Student Life, PUC’s SLOs, and the PUC Strategic Plan
  • Ability to work well with people of all backgrounds, races, religions, and genders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Excels in the collaboration of college-aged students in a higher education atmosphere.
  • Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
