Description

This position is about excellence and providing our students with the highest quality SDA higher education experience. The MPH program faculty are responsible and accountable for supporting graduate education in public health.  The faculty member will focus on teaching full-time in population health with knowledge, skills, and public health practice at the graduate level. The MPH program follows the Council on Education in Public Health (CEPH) accreditation standards, including the assurance that foundational competencies are met or exceeded.    

  • Follow the established policies and procedures of Union Adventist University that facilitate instruction, administration, and student well-being.
  • Teach knowledge, skills, and foundational public health competencies that support the learning outcomes identified for each course.  Courses of instruction may include Principles of Epidemiology, Principles of Biostatistics, Foundations of Public Health, Social and Behavioral Health, Environmental Public Health, Business and Marketing for Public Health, and, Global Environment and International Policy.
  • Provide professional instruction with a balance of public health textbook and applied practice experience in the classroom, including student involvement in community-based outreach projects, applied research, or other faculty/student projects. 
  • Contribute to the maintenance of CEPH accreditation and recruitment of future MPH students. 
  • Meet and conduct assigned classes in a professional manner.
  • Develop and maintain an environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Interact with students in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Verify and maintain records of student attendance.
  • Regularly inform students of their performance in the course using Canvas, the learning management system of the college, and other means.
  • Evaluate student progress and performance on a continuing basis including maintaining accurate and auditable records as required by law and college policy.
  • Keep abreast of changes and developments in your area of expertise.
  • Establish and maintain collegial relationships with college staff, clinical site staff, administration, and peer faculty.
  • Maintain memberships and participate in professional organizations related to areas of teaching. 
  • Cooperate with other faculty members in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods; and, participate in college-wide committees.
  • Represent Union Adventist University to the community, public organizations, and other organizations as appropriate.
  • Advise students as assigned, including the student Integrative Learning Experience (ILE) and the Applied Practice Experience (APE).

Required Experience
  • Must be currently authorized to work lawfully in the United States.
  • Desire to passionately share the healing ministry of Christ with students.
  • A minimum of master’s degree from an accredited school, with demonstrated excellence in teaching that includes graduate training in public health or health administration or a closely related field relevant to the academic curricula is required. 
  • Equivalent work experience in public health with some guest lecturing and/or adjunct teaching is desirable. 
  • Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Passing criminal history and background check clearance.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an emphasis on communication, listening, and relationship development with colleagues and students. 
  • Demonstrate ability to be part of a high-performing team with excellent results. 
  • Ability to use technology and software both in and out of the classroom. 
  • Think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload.
  • Strong student advocate.
