Walla Walla University’s School of Nursing seeks a dedicated and experienced nursing professional to join our faculty on our Portland, Oregon campus with a focus on Community Health. This role will involve teaching, mentoring, and preparing nursing students to excel in community settings and shape the next generation of nursing professionals. We are looking for an enthusiastic educator with a commitment to student success. This position will collaborate closely with faculty colleagues to deliver high-quality, evidence-based education in classroom, clinical, and community settings. The successful candidate will be a dedicated Seventh-day Adventist Christian committed to integrating their faith with teaching and scholarship.

  • Teach courses in community/population/public health nursing and other nursing content areas as needed. This position may require teaching during select summer terms to support program offerings.
  • Supervise and evaluate students in clinical settings (students are typically placed in settings such as health departments, schools, clinics, shelters and social services agencies within the Portland metro area).
  • Provide oversight and guidance to clinical faculty teaching within the course.
  • Collaborate with community agencies to establish and maintain clinical partnerships.
  • Advise and mentor students, fostering professional growth.
  • Contribute to curriculum planning and program development.
  • Participate in School of Nursing and institutional committees, meetings, and other activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to foster a positive learning environment and address diverse learning needs.
Required Experience

Education:

  • Master’s degree in nursing (MSN) required (candidates with an MSN in progress may be considered).
  • Doctorate in Nursing or active enrollment in a doctoral program strongly preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience in a community health or public health setting.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.

Licensure:

  • Active RN licensure in both Oregon and Washington required by the start of the term.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative academic team.
  • Ability to work effectively with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Capacity to work with students one-on-one and in small groups to support individualized learning.
  • Highly organized and adaptable, with the flexibility to respond to changes within the health care and academic system.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel for student visits.
