Assistant-Associate Professor – Department of History, Politics & Sociology

La Sierra University in Riverside, CA
Pacific Union Conference
Description

The Department of History, Politics & Sociology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful applicant will teach three courses per quarter largely in the areas of politics, law, and/or identity and as they intersect across issues involving diversity, equity, and inclusion, particularly in regard to minoritized ethnic, racial, gendered, and economically segregated populations. As such, a well-qualified applicant will be an equity minded individual committed to engaging with a racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse student population, cognizant of the contributions that historically and institutionally disadvantaged communities bring to our university and dedicated to closing equity gaps. Other duties will include campus service (student advising and other aspects of departmental service, as well as participating on campus committees) and scholarship activities.

Departmental Philosophy: Rooted in an interdisciplinary ethos, the Department of History, Politics & Sociology (HPS) offers programs in multiple fields, all of which, in different ways, encourage students to think critically, engage empathetically, and advocate for those marginalized historically or currently. HPS aims to—through its curriculum and other interactions with students—promote anti-racist and anti-sexist academic content that translates into positive, ongoing, and impactful action. Professors and students contribute to a community dedicated to exploring intersectional aspects of shared humanity through the various lenses offered by our department’s degrees.
