Hong Kong Adventist Academy (HKAA) is an English medium, AAA accredited school for students grade 1 through 12. We are located at Clear Water Bay, a half hour drive from downtown Hong Kong. We have about 260 students, taught by our talented team of international faculty members. We seek to hire a full-time EAL/English Teacher for the new school year beginning August 2025. Major responsibilities of the job include teaching linguistic and functional competence in the English language, build and maintain a successful EAL program. This includes providing support for students for English language needs and preparing EAL students for accessing curriculum in English. With outstanding EAL knowledge, the teacher is expected to develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. He/she needs to ensure that HKAA achieves goals that have been set for English/EAL; collaborate with colleagues to prepare students for the next grade, and nurture students in excellence, service and integrity, besides addressing the welfare, discipline and educational needs of each student as a homeroom teacher. Additionally, the candidate needs to actively support school-wide focus areas (e.g. HKAA values) and ensure that these are embedded in all subject practices. Additionally, he/she needs to use pedagogically appropriate technological tools in the teaching and learning process. From time to time, the teacher needs to coordinate with the departmental leaders and the Registrar to review, verify and recommend digital and physical textbooks and library books.
Candidate must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or higher in Education/English/EAL with a teaching certificate. He/she must have a minimum 2 years of teaching experience in elementary/middle school. Other requirements include demonstrable evidence of creating/innovating/adapting elementary school curricula to engage learners, experience with designing and implementing effective and creative inquiry-based units of study, and experience in managing classrooms with diverse students and different learning abilities (including students with special needs). Candidate also needs to possess a solid understanding of elementary and middle school school program organization, programs and students; possess a proven ability to differentiate instruction and integrate learning; and a positive, client-centric and service-oriented attitude, with a commitment to the Christian mission of HKAA.
