Portland Adventist Elementary School (PAES) is seeking candidates for a 5th-grade teaching position for the 2025-26 school year. 

PAES serves a diverse population and welcomes students of all faiths and ethnic backgrounds. Located right outside of Portland in Gresham, Oregon, we have 300 students and 17 teachers. Our teachers have a passion for collaborating and making learning experiences fun for children. We are looking for a Jesus-loving, student-centered, growth-minded educator who enjoys collaborating with other teachers, applying best practices, and developing an inspiring learning environment. 

Located in the gorgeous Willamette Valley, PAES is within easy driving distance to dense old-growth forest hiking trails, stunning waterfalls, snowcapped mountains, and more! Our beautiful campus includes a spacious gymnasium, multiple sports fields, and three playgrounds. Our modern classrooms offer Apple TVs, smartboards, new desks/chairs, Chromebooks, plenty of storage cabinets, and a teacher's office.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Collaborating with grade-level team and reading interventionist for planning and meeting the needs of students

- Developing and maintaining a safe, loving, clean, and structured classroom environment

- Planning and implementing engaging lessons and units of study 

- Communicating clearly and effectively with parents, children, and colleagues both in person and via emails and newsletters

- Developing rapport with students, families, and colleagues

- Meeting the needs of students who come from diverse backgrounds and vary in their ranges of ability

- Actively supervising students for lunch, recess, and other daily activities

- Tracking, monitoring, and communicating student growth and progress using standards-referenced proficiency scales (standards-based grading)

- Implementing restorative practices for behavior issues

- Modeling and sharing Jesus' love with children

Qualifications:

- SDA teaching credential (preferred, can be earned)

- Bachelor's Degree or higher (Elementary Ed preferred)

- Experience teaching 5th grade (preferred)

- Experience with Standard-based Learning (preferred)
