The role you’ll contribute:

The Department Chair of Occupational Therapy provides strategic leadership and oversight for the department while fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and respect. This role is responsible for managing faculty and staff, overseeing hiring processes, maintaining program budgets, ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements, and representing the department within the institution. The Chair collaborates with program directors to develop and refine curricula, delivers instruction as needed, and provides mentorship to faculty, staff, and students. Additionally, the Chair engages in student advising, supports scholarly activities, and balances administrative responsibilities with teaching, service, research, and community engagement. The Department Chair also reviews and updates departmental policies and procedures while fostering partnerships with community agencies to enhance student learning experiences.

You Will Be Responsible For:

Demonstrates behaviors at AdventHealth University in harmony with AHU’s “Four Words” of Nurture, Excellence, Spirituality, and Stewardship as well as AdventHealth’s Performance Standards of “Keep Me Safe, Love Me, Make it Easy, and Own It.”

  • Represents the Department to Senior Administration
  • Identifies appropriate community agency linkages for student learning experiences
  • Management of space utilization, strategic planning, Department events, and inventory
  • Oversees the design, coordination, and implementation of program curricula
  •  Collaborate with program directors for program initiatives and oversight
  • Develops, designs, and delivers instruction in designated courses
  • Leads the institutional effectiveness process in their area of responsibility by implementing, monitoring, documenting, and completing all required assessment activities in a timely manner
  • Participates in student advising and mentorship as requested by programs
  • Actively engages in the institution's committees as assigned by the President
  • Engages in the academic roles of teaching, service, scholarship, and research
  • Oversight of maintenance of accreditation for all Department programs
  • Assumes other duties as assigned

COMPLIANCE/REGULATORY RESPONSIBILITY: 

  • Helps to develop the curricula in harmony with the program directors, institution, the community, and professional accreditation agencies
  • Develops, reviews and updates department policies and procedures
  • Documents, reviews, and maintains current faculty, clinical liaison, staff, student, and clinical affiliation records for theDepartment
  • Documents and maintains current student clinical and/or didactic experiences
  • Guides University faculty to ensure program meets all requirements of accreditation

OPERATING & CAPITAL BUDGET/FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Oversight and support of program directors in the maintenance of program budgets that assures adequate resources to support faculty
  •  Assists in securing internal and/or external sources of funding for the department and/or students

STRATEGIC PLANNING RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Determines departmental vision and strategic plan in accordance with the institution's mission and vision

PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Maintains involvement in professional organizations
  • Develops improvement plans for the department, faculty, staff, and students to improve performance, as indicated by assessment results

 COMMUNITY RELATIONS RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Exhibits and models the characteristics of a Christian professional
  • Assists in establishing activities to sustain community based best practices site
  • Participates in program and University-wide service activities

 STAFFING/LABOR/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Human resource management to ensure excellence in teaching for students
  • Manages selection, evaluation, scheduling and mentorship of department faculty and staff in collaboration with program directors; Oversees student and employee grievances
  • Oversees all course instruction, department technology, and employee scheduling
Required Experience

What Will You Need: 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy or other healthcare related area by an institution accredited by a regional accrediting body recognized by the USDE
  • Entry level Occupational Therapy degree
  • Minimum 5-years of documented experience in the field of occupational therapy. This must include: 
    • A minimum of 2-year of clinical practice as an Occupational Therapy 
    • Full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the post-secondary level
    • Administration experience to include program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation, and budgeting
  • Certified by NBCOT as an occupational therapist 
  • Eligible for licensure in the state of Florida as an occupational therapist

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise faculty, staff, and student workers in the OT Department.
