Position Description:
Anchorage Junior Academy (AJA) is seeking a teacher for grades 1-4 starting fall of 2025. The ideal candidate will possess enthusiastic passion and joy in helping kids learn. They will be organized and have a special commitment and joy for sharing the amazing love of Christ. Depending on experience, this role could also include the significant and rewarding responsibility of serving as the teaching principal and vision caster for AJA.
School Description:
AJA is blessed to have three teachers, including a locally funded Pre-kindergarten/ kindergarten teacher, and two full-time salaried teachers for grades 1-4 and 5-8. The school also has a ¾ time school secretary and a volunteer music teacher. The school building is a fairly large complex with multiple classrooms, a library, kitchen, and gymnasium. AJA is supported by seven constituent churches located in the Anchorage area " the bowl".
Location Description:
The school is situated on several treed acres near the zoo in a stunning and serene part of Anchorage. The city is thriving, beautiful, and ethnically diverse with a population of nearly 300,000. Anchorage is surrounded by mountains on three sides, has a view of the inlet, and offers a wide variety of cultural, musical, and outdoor activities. Anchorage has the conveniences of cities it size in the lower 48 states. Examples of conveniences: Walmart, Target, Costco, Lowes, Home Depot, Cabela's, cultural centers, and a wide variety of restaurants as well as a conveniently located airport with an abundance of daily flights to cities in the lower 48 states, not to mention several ski areas close by.
Helpful information…contrary to popular belief, it is not dark 24 hours a day in mid-winter or even close in any of the regions in which we have Adventist Schools in Alaska.
If you possess a denominational elementary teaching certificate, are an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist church in good standing, and possess the qualities mentioned above, you are the ideal candidate! Those with other teaching certifications will also be considered.
