Business Manager-Full Time

Description

The Business Manager is a key member of the executive management team and will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementation, management and oversight for all financial-related activities of the school and its rental properties. This will include direct responsibility for accounting, finance, payroll, forecasting, purchasing, strategic planning, vendor negotiations, investments, and other tasks as assigned by the principal.  

Management Duties:

  1. Model Christian behaviors that demonstrate the best of ethical and responsible fiscal oversight.
  2. Participate actively with the administrative team to make sound financial decisions for the school.
  3. In partnership with the administrative team, represent the best interest of the school regarding financial matters in conversations with parents, community members, prospective donors, and other stakeholders with grace, tact and compassion.
  4. Maintain regular office hours to respond to the needs of the business office staff, educational team, parents, guests, donors, etc.
  5. Direct and oversee the Business Office personnel and processes, including, but not limited to: accounts payable, student statements, collections, payroll, purchasing, and business contracts.  Ensure that all processes are documented clearly and updated regularly.  Provide clear, appropriate and regular training and support for Business Office team members, including determining avenues to improve efficiency and automation.
  6. Develop Financial Estimates and Payment Plans for parents before the school year starts and proactively confer with families where necessary. 
  7. Ensure donor financial gifts are accounted for and appropriately distributed following the preferences of the donor in a timely manner in consultation with the Principal.
  8. Establish a presence within the San Diego Academy community.

Accounting / Controller Duties:

  1. Develop a monthly and year end closing checklist for the accounting records.
  2. Close the month and the year after following the checklist.
  3. Make timely and understandable reports of Financial Statements to committees and the board.
  4. Prepared for annual audit.
  5. Evaluate accounting processes for possible efficiencies.
  6. Verify and approve all journal vouchers, checks and payroll entries.
  7. Be involved in all capital purchases and record in the Plant Fund.
  8. Make sure all assets are insured for the appropriate amounts.
  9. Develop an annual cash flow plan (sensitive to June and July).
  10. Execute electronic check signing procedures for all disbursements.
  11. Manage processes for timely and accurate financial forecasting, budgets and consolidation and reporting for the school.

Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with the General Conference Auditing Service and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.

Salary range: dependent on experience and education; $70,642 - $93,548

 

Required Experience
  1. Must have an expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, a church member in regular standing, and a desire to serve in a cooperative, spiritually redemptive, and soul-winning atmosphere.  Applicants must be able to work legally in the United States at the time of application. 
  2. Should be knowledgeable of operating and personnel policy and procedures of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
  3. Ideally the candidate would have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business.
  4. Must have previous accounting and business experience.
  5. Must have good people skills and sound judgment.
  6. Some management experience preferred.
  7. Should have strong computer skills in various areas, including MS Office, Excel, and conference-wide accounting software and time keeping software.
  8. Must be able to write and speak English fluently.
  9. Must practice confidentiality of information at all times.
