The life coach is responsible for the achievement of excellent services in coaching, academic advising, academic support skills, and non-academic support tools for the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program. This individual will be a partner in implementing strategic initiatives aimed at increasing student retention, engagement, and graduation, as well as assuming programmatic support responsibilities.

  • Serves as a life coach for first-generation, low-income students with disabilities and underrepresented populations in higher education
  • Utilizes student success and coaching best practices to mentor program participants, providing specialized services as needed
  • Assists participating freshmen with registration and academic advising throughout the academic year
  • Manage a caseload of RIO SSS participants by monitoring academic programs, implementing activities, and providing support to promote their student success
  • Access student needs, provide appropriate interventions, develop strategies to overcome barriers to success, and offer referrals and access to campus and community resources
  • Collaborate with various university departments on new and returning students in the areas of financial aid, admissions, advising, and serve as an advocate on behalf of students; work in collaboration with the SSS Program Director to support project participants

Required Experience
  • Must be currently authorized to work lawfully in the United States
  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field required; master's degree preferred
  • Three years of experience in higher education preferred
  • Holds or is able/willing to obtain life coach certification
  • Experience in teaching college-level courses and/or adults preferred
  • Ability to crate and maintain good working relationships with students
  • Ability to work effectively with various university departments and strong communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations to assist their need
  • Ability to effectively initiate, implement, coordinate, and assess programs and activities
  • Experience and knowledge of issues and challenges facing first-generation, low-income students with disabilities and underrepresented populations in higher education
  • Demonstrates a passion for helping students succeed
  • Possess strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Proficient with computer applications with a thorough understanding of Microsoft Office suite and data management software
