Constructs and repairs structural woodwork and equipment in establishment by performing the following duties. Rotates weekend shifts to take call for emergency service calls including repairs beyond normal work hours as required. May be called in at any time to assist with emergency repairs as needed. When on normal call rotation the response time to an emergency should not exceed more than thirty minutes.

 

Duties and responsibilities

Performs general carpentry as assigned by foreman.  Repairs, and installs counters, cabinets, benches, and partitions.  Works with one or two students. Hangs doors, replaces windows, window screens, installs weather stripping, interior trim, and finish hardware.  Repairs floors and floor tile, repairs steps, builds partitions, works with sheetrock and insulation.  Performs general carpentry work.  Installs suspended ceiling systems.  Replaces damaged ceiling tile, and wall coverings.   Installs glass in windows, doors, and partitions.  Installs nameplates and places directional signs. Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above-ground level. Cleans and repairs gutters and downspouts and makes minor roofing repairs. Repairs bock and brick masonry.  Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete, pours and finishes concrete.

 

Physical demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and use hands to finger handle, or feel.  The employee frequently required to walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb (Ladders)or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception

 

Work environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and / or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or particles; toxic chemicals; extreme heat; and risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the airborne work environment is usually moderate to loud.

 

Required Experience

Carpentry work of at least 6 months of hands-on experience. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Current valid USA or Canadian Driver’s License. Work safely with hand and power tools. 

 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs

 

Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
