Position Title:

Adjunct Instructor – Survey of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at Southwestern Adventist University invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor position to teach Survey of Chemistry beginning Spring 2026.

Reporting to: Department Chair

Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience, following the adjunct faculty pay scale of Southwestern Adventist University

Position:

The successful candidate will teach an undergraduate Survey of Chemistry course, including a lecture and laboratory section. The instructor will be responsible for preparing and delivering engaging lessons, assessing student performance, maintaining accurate grade records, and supporting student learning in alignment with departmental goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach one section of Survey of Chemistry (lecture and/or lab).
  • Prepare course materials, assignments, and assessments consistent with department standards.
  • Provide academic support to students.
  • Collaborate with the department Chair to ensure consistent learning outcomes.
  • Adhere to institutional policies and procedures.

Maintain an updated record of students’ grades on Canvas.

Must demonstrate a strong commitment to Jesus Christ, uphold the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and be a member in good and regular standing. Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:

  • Master’s degree (minimum) in Chemistry or a closely related field; Ph.D. preferred.
  • Previous teaching experience at the college level is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Work Conditions & Environment:

Job Conditions:  mostly indoors

Work Hours: Monday-Friday (40 hours/week)

Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. and perform physical tasks such as sitting, walking, typing, and standing for extended periods.
