Description

Takoma Academy School Board and the Potomac Conference seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the Principal of Takoma Academy, a 9-12th grade college preparatory school. The Principal serves as the spiritual, academic, and administrative leader of the school, fostering an environment where students are nurtured spiritually, intellectually, physically, and socially.

Core Responsibilities

1. Spiritual Leadership

  • Model a vibrant personal relationship with Christ and uphold Seventh-day Adventist beliefs and lifestyle
  • Provide spiritual leadership to faculty, staff, and students through Christian example, prayer, and intentional discipleship
  • Collaborate with local pastors and church leadership to promote spiritual growth and outreach

2. Mission & Vision Alignment

  • Lead the school in fulfilling its mission within the framework of the Potomac Conference Office of Education’s vision, mission, and policies.
  • Promote a vision for Adventist education that emphasizes discipleship, academic excellence, and service to others.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the school’s strategic plan in collaboration with the School Board and Education Office.

3. Instructional & Academic Leadership

  • Supervise and support teachers in professional growth in curriculum development, instruction, and assessment consistent with NAD and Standards Based Learning standards.
  • Utilize data, observations, and feedback to enhance student learning and instructional effectiveness.
  • Encourage innovation, collaboration, and continuous professional growth among faculty.

4. Faculty & Staff Development

  • Recruit, hire, and retain excellent teaching and administrative staff that are committed to the values and goals of Takoma Academy.
  • Foster a mission-driven professional culture grounded in respect, collaboration, and best practices.
  • Plan and lead professional development that deepens pedagogical skills, including Professional Learning Communities, Standard Based Learning and use of data to drive instruction.

5. Student Life & Well-being

  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and spiritually nurturing school climate.
  • Support programs that develop student leadership, character, and service orientation.
  • Oversee student discipline with fairness, grace, and redemptive intent.
  • Encourage participation in mission, outreach, and community service initiatives.

6. School Operations & Administration

  • Manage day-to-day school operations including scheduling, budgeting, and facilities oversight.
  • Maintain compliance with all Conference, Union, and NAD educational policies, as well as state and accreditation requirements.
  • Collaborate with the School Board and Education Office on policy, planning, and reporting.
  • Ensure strong internal communication and a transparent decision-making process.
  • Provide clear, decisive, and consistent decision-making in a timely manner that is communicated clearly and grounded in transparent reasoning.

7. Enrollment, Advancement & Community Relations

  • Promote the school within the church and community to strengthen enrollment and visibility.
  • Partner with parents, alumni, and local congregations to build a supportive school community.
  • Support fundraising and development initiatives that sustain and grow the ministry of the school.
  • Serve as a positive ambassador for Adventist education at all times.
  • Ensure effective communication with families regarding student progress and school activities.
Required Experience

Education & Certification

  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field.
  • Hold or be eligible for NAD Administrator Certification through the Columbia Union Conference Office of Education.
  • Minimum of five years of administrative experience, preferably within Adventist education.

Faith & Commitment

  • A baptized, active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in good standing.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Adventist education and lifestyle principles.
  • Spiritual maturity and the ability to lead with humility, wisdom, and grace.

Leadership & Skills

  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage operations, and foster a mission-driven culture.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Visionary mindset with a passion for mentoring educators and inspiring students.
  • Proficiency in technology, data-informed decision-making, and educational best practices.
