The Associate Superintendent for Finance and Development is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing both the financial operations and development efforts of the district. This position combines financial management, strategic planning, and fundraising to ensure the 16 conference schools’ financial health and sustainability while securing additional resources to support educational excellence. The Associate Superintendent will work closely with the Vice President for Education, Board of Education, school principals, and other conference leaders to align financial and fundraising strategies with the conference office of education goals.

This role will lead budgeting, financial forecasting, and resource allocation, as well as support the district’s fundraising initiatives, grants, partnerships, to enhance the conference office of education’s capacity for innovation and growth. The ideal candidate will have expertise in accounting and school finance, with a passion for education and a strategic mindset to drive both fiscal responsibility and revenue generation.

Financial Leadership & Strategy

  • Budgeting & Financial Planning:
    • Develop conference-wide, school budgeting process, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to support instructional programs, facilities, and operational needs.
    • Develop long-term financial strategies to ensure financial sustainability and growth, balancing the office of education’s educational priorities with available resources.
  • Revenue Generation & Fund Development:
    • Work with Vice President for Education to cultivate relationships with donors, community partners, alumni, and other stakeholders to generate financial support for the district.
    • Identify, pursue, and secure grants and external funding opportunities to supplement office of education resources and support special initiatives.

Development & Community Relations

  • Partnership Building & Networking:
    • Assist the Vice President for Education in establishing and maintaining strategic partnerships with local businesses, community organizations, foundations, and higher education institutions to create opportunities for funding, collaboration, and student enrichment.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Collaboration with School Leaders:
    • Work closely with school principals and business managers to ensure alignment between financial and development goals and the district’s educational priorities.
    • Supervise and support a group of school leaders in the operation of schools and school boards.
Required Experience

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (Master’s degree, CFRE, CPA, or other relevant certification preferred).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in finance, budgeting, or financial management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of K-12 education finance systems, including budgeting, revenue generation, and compliance with NAD, state and federal regulations.
  • Experience in building and nurturing relationships with donors, community partners, and stakeholders.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial and development information to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with financial management tools, software including NAD approved software.
  • Ability to develop and implement fundraising strategies that align with the office’s goals.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams, creating a positive, collaborative work environment.

Work Environment & Conditions

  • This position will be based at the Potomac Conference Ministry Center located in Silver Spring, MD, with periodic travel to the 16 campuses across the conference and frequent travel to the 3-4 campuses under direct supervision.
