Description

The Physical Education Teacher and Athletic Director fulfills the mission of Adventist education by developing a comprehensive K-8 program that promotes student health, athletic skill, and spiritual wellness. This dual-role position fosters a supportive environment built on commitment, humility, and positivity, overseeing both core PE instruction and the after-school athletics program.

Major Responsibilities Include:

  • Curriculum & Instruction: Plan and implement an engaging physical education curriculum for grades K through 8.
  • Athletic Leadership: Serve as Athletic Director, overseeing all interscholastic athletic programs and ensuring equal resources for all teams.
  • Operations: Coordinate and schedule multiple sports seasons, practices, games, and transportation.
  • Personnel Management: Recruit, supervise, and support volunteer coaches; conduct meetings regarding strategy and conduct.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to league, conference, and school policies, including student eligibility and safety requirements.
  • Character Development: Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and Christ-centered character development.
  • Stewardship: Maintain and support athletics fundraisers and manage departmental budgets/equipment.
  • Collaboration: Partner with administration, faculty, families, and community partners to support student success.

Required Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

  • Developmental Knowledge: Understanding of the physical fitness, skill levels, and mental development of K-8 young athletes.
  • Technical Skill: In-depth working knowledge of all sports (including volleyball, soccer, basketball), rules of sports, coaching techniques, and equipment procurement.
  • Soft Skills: Strong organizational and leadership skills. Passion for mentoring young people. Ability to work independently, manage details, meet deadlines, and motivate student-athletes. Embodies a growth mindset with a daily reflection of practice. Supports a climate that values excellence and achievement, understanding that excuses are irrelevant.
  • Technology: Proficiency in job-appropriate technology and digital record-keeping.
Required Experience
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (experience in a school setting is a plus).
  • Certification: Must hold a current Denominational Teaching Certificate (or be willing to work towards it), AND must hold or be able to obtain a Washington State teaching certificate by the date of employment.
  • Background Check: Cleared background check with the Oregon Conference of SDA.
  • Health & Safety: Current CPR/AED certification and First Aid training. Completion of the course in Concussion Awareness in Athletics.
  • Adventist Athletics: Completion of Coaching Distinctly Adventist Sports (1140).
  • Legal: Must possess the legal right to work and reside in the United States.
  • Salary & Benefits: Based on the North American Division (NAD) denominational wage scale and policies.
