Lake Union Conference | Michigan Conference
Description

Great Lakes Adventist Academy is searching for a full-time, hourly Food Service Supervisor who is committed to the mission and message of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and is passionate about ministering to young people in a boarding school setting.

Great Lakes Adventist Academy (GLAA) is a 9-12 grade boarding academy located in Cedar Lake, Michigan and it serves approximately 160 students. GLAA was established in 1987 when Cedar Lake Academy (est. 1898) and Adelphian Academy (est. 1904) merged to become one school, and the school is well established and rich with history. GLAA is known for its strong academics, traditional Adventist values, and its family atmosphere. To learn more, visit the GLAA Facebook page or the website at www.glaa.net.

The Food Services Supervisor will be a part of the Food Services Department team consisting of a director, two full-time food service supervisors, and approximately 25-30 student workers.  Responsibilities will include student supervision, meal preparation and serving, collaborating with the leadership team in menu and recipe preparation, and cleaning. Special care will be taken to accommodate special dietary needs (i.e. allergies, gluten-free, etc.).

We have a very close-knit staff family, and the ideal candidate will be a team player who is willing to be part of a wonderful, supportive school community. The ideal candidate will also be relational, inclusive, and professional. He/she will foster a Christ-centered atmosphere in the cafeteria, while providing healthy, nutritious, attractive, and delicious meals for our students to enjoy.

Required Experience

The candidate must understand that there are physical demands, such as standing throughout 8-10 hour shifts and the ability to lift 50 pounds. Each supervisor will be expected to work every third weekend and during Camp Meeting. Supervisors are not typically expected to work during home leaves or school breaks.

Applicants must be committed Seventh-day Adventist church members in good standing. The selected candidate must have the proper credentials to operate a commercial kitchen or must acquire them upon hire. Preference will be given to individuals who have institutional food service experience. Hourly wages will be determined by the Business Manager and will be based upon prior work experience. Full-time employees are eligible to receive employment benefits such as health care and paid time off benefits. The candidate must possess strong verbal and written communication skills in English and must currently be legally eligible to work in the United States.

Please note that resumes will be reviewed as they are received with interviews scheduled on an ongoing basis. The position may be filled prior to the due date.
