Assistant Dean of Boys

Description

Assist the Head Dean of Boys in leading a safe, clean, healthy, well-organized residence hall program.

Supervise resident assistants, and student workers in Phanstiel Hall.

Supervise students in the dormitory and in a variety of settings on and off campus.

Cooperate with the Head Dean in administering discipline for dorm residents. 

Embrace opportunities for spiritual growth, including leading dorm worships, and providing informal Christian counseling.

Assist in providing healthcare services, including dispensing medication.

Take steps, in cooperation with the Head Dean, to meet mental health challenges. 

Help the Head Dean in overseeing the safety and security of the dormitory.

Enforce school policy as it relates to student conduct.

Communicate with students, parents, and faculty.

Maintain professional demeanor and confidentiality.

Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.

Maintain compliance with the standards of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the policies of Shenandoah Valley Academy, Potomac Conference Code, and Columbia Union Code. 

Required Experience

Membership in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Right to work in the United States.

Experience in supervising, and forming positive relationships with, young people.

Knowledge of adolescent behavior and psychology.

Fluency in English, excellent verbal communication skills and basic computer proficiency.

The ability to work safely, follow instructions, and adhere to education standards and best practices.

The ability to exercise independent judgement and discretion, and to avoid and resolve problems.

The ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance, and to work efficiently and effectively.
