Livingstone Adventist Academy (LAA) is seeking a committed, Christ-centered educator to serve as a high school English and History teacher. The successful candidate will integrate faith and learning while fostering academic excellence, critical thinking, and spiritual growth in a collaborative, student-centered environment. 

LAA is a Pre-K–12 Seventh-day Adventist school located in Salem, Oregon, the state capital, in the heart of the Willamette Valley. Founded in 1898, LAA serves a diverse student population and welcomes students of all faiths and ethnic backgrounds. The school is committed to excellence in Christian education and continues to experience steady growth, currently enrolling approximately 145 students with a team of 12 dedicated teachers.

LAA operates on a beautiful, modern campus completed in 2019, featuring technology-rich classrooms, a spacious gymnasium, athletic field, and multiple playgrounds. Classrooms are equipped with large interactive displays and student devices (iPads or Chromebooks), creating an engaging and innovative learning environment.

Located just south of Portland in the scenic Willamette Valley, Salem offers convenient access to outdoor recreation, including hiking in old-growth forests, waterfalls, and nearby mountains. The area provides an exceptional quality of life for those who enjoy the outdoors.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Teach two secondary English and three History courses in alignment with NAD and state standards
  • Integrate Seventh-day Adventist philosophy of education into daily instruction
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, standards-based lessons
  • Assess and monitor student learning, maintaining accurate records of progress
  • Establish a positive classroom environment that supports student engagement and respect
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school personnel
  • Participate in school functions, committees, and professional development activities
  • Support the spiritual life of students through prayer, worship, and mentoring


 


 

Required Experience

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, History, or related field required (Master’s preferred)
  • Current teaching certification or eligibility for denominational certification
  • Commitment to the mission and beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
  • Practicing member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in regular standing
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate faith and learning
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching at the secondary level
  • Ability to teach a range of English and Social Studies courses
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and digital learning platforms
