osition Overview

Monterey Bay Academy is seeking a passionate and qualified High School Life Sciences Teacher with a particular interest in marine biology. This position includes teaching a range of science courses and contributing to a unique, hands-on learning environment that takes full advantage of the school’s exceptional coastal location.

The ideal candidate will be excited to engage students both in the classroom and through experiential learning opportunities, including marine-based instruction and SCUBA certification.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach high school courses including:
    • Biology
    • Marine Biology
    • Anatomy & Physiology
    • An additional science-related course (to be determined based on program needs and candidate strengths)
  • Oversee and support the school’s SCUBA certification program
  • Implement engaging, standards-based instruction using:
    • Standards-Based Learning (SBL)
    • Differentiated Instruction
    • Project-Based Learning (PBL)
  • Foster critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and student engagement
  • Integrate faith and learning in a Christ-centered educational environment

Required Experience

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education with endorsements in Biology, Marine Biology, or a closely related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Valid NAD teaching credential (or eligibility to obtain one)
  • Experience or interest in marine science instruction
  • Understanding of and willingness to implement:
    • Standards-Based Learning
    • Differentiated Instruction
    • Project-Based Learning
  • Strong work ethic, flexibility, and a collaborative spirit
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Seventh-day Adventist education
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States at the time of employment
  • Previous high school teaching experience (preferred)
  • Experience in marine biology or coastal science education (preferred)
  • SCUBA certification or willingness to obtain certification

The wage range is $51,299-$67,954
