Auburn Adventist Academy is seeking a dedicated, organized, and mission-minded Food Service Director to lead all aspects of our boarding school food service program. This position plays a vital role in supporting the health, well-being, and overall student experience by providing nutritious, appealing meals in a welcoming Christian environment.

 

Primary Responsibilities

Menu Planning & Nutrition

  • Develop nutritious, balanced, and appealing menus for high school students. 
  • Plan menus that include seasonal items, special events, and dietary accommodations. 
  • Ensure meals support healthy lifestyle principles. 

Food Purchasing & Budget Management

  • Purchase food, supplies, and equipment within the approved budget. 
  • Monitor food costs, inventory, and waste to promote responsible stewardship. 
  • Maintain accurate purchasing, inventory, and budget records. 

Kitchen Operations

  • Oversee all food preparation and meal service. 
  • Ensure meals are prepared safely, consistently, and on schedule. 
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen and dining facility. 
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and Washington Conference food safety regulations. 

Staff Leadership

  • Supervise, coach, and evaluate cafeteria staff and student workers. 
  • Prepare work schedules that provide efficient coverage for: 
    • Breakfast  
    • Lunch  
    • Dinner  
    • Weekend meals 
    • Holiday and Special events meal service 

Student & Campus Services

  • Coordinate weekend and holiday meal service for boarding students. 
  • Oversee summer food service for NBC campers and other summer campus programs. 
  • Coordinate meal service for school events, banquets, and special functions. 
  • Work with the school administration to accommodate food allergies, medical needs, and approved dietary restrictions. 

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work closely with school administration, the business office, and residence hall staff. 
  • Evaluate cafeteria operations and recommend improvements in quality, efficiency, and student satisfaction. 
  • Foster a positive, respectful, Christ-centered work environment. 
  • Promote excellent customer service for students, staff, campers, and guests. 

 

 

 

Required Experience

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in food service management, institutional dining, school nutrition, or a related field (preferred). 
  • Knowledge of: 
    • Menu planning 
    • Food purchasing 
    • Inventory management 
    • Budget oversight 
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and health department regulations. 
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. 
  • Experience supervising employees and student workers. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced boarding school environment. 
  • A commitment to healthy lifestyle principles and quality food service. 
  • Support for the mission, beliefs, and educational philosophy of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods. 
  • Ability to work in a commercial kitchen environment.
