Job Summary

The accountant will care for all aspects of daily business office activity. He/she will be involved in receipting of money; processing approved payments and handling other general ledger functions. This role also directs supervision of student workers.

 Duties and Responsibilities

  • Process phone calls and emails; complete the tasks they generate.
  • Serve as the first point of contact in the GCA Business Office.
  • Receive, sort, and process mail and packages.
  • Ability to learn and successfully utilize accounting software.
  • Handle all general ledger functions (cash receipts, cash disbursement, journal vouchers, billing) as assigned.
  • Process properly authorized accounts payable invoices.
  • Prepare general ledger accounting entries.
  • Reconcile bank statements.
  • Prepare monthly invoices.
  • Keep business office bookstore stocked.
  • Perform such other duties as may be required or assigned by the Business Manager and the Admin team.
  • Participate in school activity sponsorship and student supervision.
Required Experience

Qualifications

  • Must have an expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, be a Seventh-day Adventist church member in regular standing, with a desire to serve in a cooperative, spiritually-redemptive, and soul-winning atmosphere.
  • Must interact well with students, parents, staff and vendors; demonstrate a passion for customer service. Able to treat others with a positive and helpful attitude.
  • Must be able to motivate and supervise student workers.
  • Must be proficient at data entry and able to use Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must have a team player attitude and present a professional demeanor.
  • Able to work in an environment where multi-tasking and distractions are common.
  • Possess strong initiative.
  • Must maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Must be able to write and speak English fluently.
  • Associate or Bachelor degree in accounting preferred.

Typical Physical Demands

Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching. May require lifting up to 25 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, telephone and other office equipment. Must be able to operate an automobile and climb stairs without assistance. Requires normal range of hearing and vision.

Working Conditions

Essential tasks are performed under normal office conditions with little/no noticeable discomfort. Work area is well lighted and ventilated.
