Description

As the Grounds Supervisor, the primary responsibility is to supervise student workers in grounds maintenance tasks. This includes overseeing yard care activities such as lawn mowing, flower bed maintenance, weed control, and irrigation system upkeep at university-owned housing. Regular assessment of campus landscapes for plant health, cleanliness, and pruning needs is essential, as is ensuring tasks are completed in a timely manner and to satisfaction. Collaboration with the Grounds Manager on student worker performance issues and coordination with other Grounds crews for various tasks is also required. Snow and ice removal duties are part of the role, as well as providing training to student workers on equipment usage. Additionally, maintaining regular communication with the Grounds Manager regarding crew activities and equipment maintenance is crucial. The position also involves being flexible to respond to urgent landscape needs on-call alternate weekends and during storm events.

Required Experience

Education for the Grounds Supervisor position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Preferred qualifications include licensure or certification in WSDA Pesticide Application. Candidates should ideally possess 1-3 years of experience, with 3-5 years preferred, demonstrating excellence in work processes, attention to detail, and adherence to university policies and regulatory requirements. Essential skills include a customer-focused approach, effective communication, collegiality, initiative, efficiency, coachability, and the ability to manage people effectively. Additionally, knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word/Excel) is required. Compensation for this role ranges from $19.33 to $21.97 per hour. For hourly positions, no relocation money will be provided.
