Job Summary: The Vice President – Research Affairs is responsible for coordinating the research programs, activities, and policies of LLUH. This includes providing advisory services to various groups conducting research across the institution. This position is also tasked with maintaining the research infrastructure of the organization and serves as the institutional official authorized to sign research grant applications. In addition to research, this role also oversees intellectual property and innovation across the institution. Performs other duties as assigned. 

Pay Range: $275,000 to $378,000/annually

Required Experience

Education and Experience: Doctorate is required. Minimum of 10 years of experience in research as a Principal Investigator and/or experience managing complex intellectual property agreements is required.  Five years management experience is required. Membership in the Seventh-day Adventist Church Required.  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA): Sophisticated understanding of complex research, intellectual property and licensing issues and a thorough knowledge of patent law. Extensive knowledge of US federal statutes and government regulations (NIH, USDA, FDA, EPA) pertaining to the development and commercialization of technology, particularly in the context of federally funded research. Must be skilled in preparing and delivering verbal and written presentations and be fluent in English.  Must possess working knowledge of policies, procedures, and institutional and denominational organizational structures.  Must be able to develop financial systems to accurately control institution financial and operational activities. Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of management both within and outside the areas of his/her responsibility.  Must have problem-solving and analytical skills and be able to initiate change.  Able to successfully manage, motivate, and supervise staff of diverse backgrounds and education. Must be able to problem-solve, reason, forecast and evaluate.  Able to remain organized and handle many responsibilities simultaneously.
