Description

The job involves overseeing the maintenance of residence hall buildings, covering a range of tasks from plumbing repairs and painting to electrical work and general upkeep. This includes addressing issues such as clogged toilets, leaky faucets, and broken blinds, as well as maintaining heating and cooling systems and handling snow removal. Responding to work orders promptly, prioritizing tasks, and communicating with residents and staff about the status of repairs are essential responsibilities. Additionally, the role involves planning and coordinating projects, managing contracted repairs, and collaborating with other facility services staff to ensure efficient completion of work. Furthermore, the position requires managing student employees, handling on-call duties for after-hours and emergency repairs, and maintaining connections with campus departments. Attending campus functions, assisting with emergencies as needed, and participating in departmental meetings are also part of the job. Overall, the role involves a combination of hands-on maintenance work, project coordination, personnel management, and communication skills to effectively manage the upkeep of residence hall facilities.

Required Experience

Applicants should possess a blend of practical experience and knowledge in general maintenance, equivalent to 3-5 years of relevant experience. While no specific licensure or certification is required, a commitment to achieving high standards of work quality and compliance with university policies and regulations is essential. Strong customer focus, effective communication skills, and collegiality are key traits, emphasizing the importance of being helpful, respectful, and team-oriented while prioritizing customer satisfaction.
